Dear Sleep
Dear Sleep,
Remember when we used to be best friends? We'd spend long, uninterrupted nights together, drifting through dreams without a care in the world. But then, a tiny human entered my life, and suddenly, our relationship became... complicated.
Now, instead of our usual eight-hour rendezvous, I'm lucky if we get three consecutive hours together. Midnight feedings, diaper changes, and the mysterious art of swaddling have taken precedence over our time. I've become a master of the 2 AM zombie shuffle, navigating the darkened halls with one eye open, praying I don't stub my toe (again).
I've tried to rekindle our bond. White noise machines that mimic the soothing sounds of the ocean, blackout curtains that turn my room into a cave, and even those fancy minky blankets from Baby Want Designs that feel like a warm hug. They do help, especially the minky blankets—seriously, they're like a cloud made of marshmallows. But alas, even their unparalleled softness can't guarantee our reunion.theminkyblanket.com
Friends and family offer well-meaning advice: "Sleep when the baby sleeps." Sure, that sounds great in theory, but when the baby decides that 3 PM is party time, and 3 AM is perfect for a deep slumber, our schedules don't exactly align.theminkyblanket.com
I've come to accept that, for now, our relationship will be sporadic and unpredictable. But I hold onto hope that one day, in the not-so-distant future, we'll find our rhythm again. Until then, I'll cherish the brief moments we do have together, no matter how fleeting.
Miss you dearly,
A Sleep-Deprived Parent
P.S. To all the fellow parents out there navigating this sleepless journey, hang in there. And if you're looking for a little extra comfort during those late-night wake-ups, consider wrapping yourself and your little one in a minky blanket from Baby Want Designs. They might not replace lost sleep, but they sure make the awake times a lot cozier.
